My visit to Vienna was marred by spending one day in bed under the weather. I don't know if I was just depressed or if I had a bug but I went back to my hotel at noon and spent the day sleeping until about seven when I got up for about two hours for a horrible dinner next door. So in the end I only had one full day here.
Saturday -- I went to the Hotel Sacher and I had Sacher Torte and was really underwhelmed. (See photo in earlier post.) I should have gone to a less famous place. I had flat Persecco and dry cake.
However today I felt much better and went to Belvedere Palace where I saw two museums and some terrific paintings. There was a lot of work by Gustav Klimt. He was quite a draftsman and did some great portraits, There was a show of Egon Schiele who died at twenty eight along with his pregnant wife from the Spanish Flu.
I also saw a show of kinetic and futuristic work and the major work was all done by women. I thought I had gone to a show of women painters but that was not the case. There were just many paintings by women, many by Erica Giovanna Klien.
