Avignon

Going to Avignon was a lovely little side trip. The train ride between Nice and Avignon was very picturesque as is the trip from Avignon to Paris so far. Although it rained before and after, the sun came out around Marseille. The sea was rough and beautiful. By the time I reached Avignon it was raining again.
It is early Spring and the pastel colors of the trees with buds or flowers gives me a nice feeling of the beginning of a new season. I wish I could either paint or take photos of the fields with the distinctive tall narrow trees that outline them but I am on a high speed French Train.
It is so green and the farmlands are plowed and ready. The grape vines are just beginning. Each little village seems to have an old but dramatic church in the center. Of course here in France there is an occasional nuclear plant as well. That's not what one wants to see these days. I digress.
I walked around the old city of Avignon inside the walls when I arrived an hour late in the afternoon. I found a restaurant for dinner. I returned to the hotel to take a shower and it was pouring again when I went out for dinner around eight. The hotel lent me a large umbrella and I was off.
The restaurant was nice, good but not great. Another single woman walked in, and when I heard her speak English I went over and asked if she would be interested in company. We had dinner together. She is an engineer who works for Campbell Foods and was here for business. She works on those giant machines that make food in mass.  [Continued in next post.]
