I arrived Dublin Saturday after a short flight from Amsterdam. My hotel is really old. After changing from the first room they put me in I was much happier. The hotel was completely full but the desk person managed to switch me with someone who had not yet arrived. The hotel has a certain charm.
There is a nice traditional bar, and a dining room as well. Last night was the first time on the whole trip that I needed to use my earplugs. There was an 80th birthday party and the band played on and on. I am glad they had so much spunk.
There is an area near the hotel across the river full of bars and restaurants. There was a lot of music in the street and the area was a real scene. Since it was Saturday night everything was full and I had trouble finding a place that I liked for dinner.
I settled on a Tapas place and sat at the bar. I think that every hospitality worker comes from another country. One of the people behind the bar, which was for food and wine, came out and talked to me several times and insisted on buying me a Sangria. She was Polish but I have also met Bulgarians, Czechs and Turks. They were all very nice.
I have not seen Dublin yet. I am going on a three day tour tomorrow (Sunday) around the country. I decided it would be easier than trying to put one together myself, especially with my big suitcase. I am leaving the suitcase at the hotel and taking my rucksack.
