Encore Du Jardin Du Luxembourg

I went to dinner last night at about 10 PM to a cafe called Cafe Louis Phillipe, on the Seine next to where I used to live. That came out to forty euros which in dollars would be good but in euros is quite expensive. I must say I have heard many more Americans here than any part of my trip except Florence.
On my first night here I was supposed to go out with Rosamond from NYC but she made a slight error in her timing. She thought she was leaving on Saturday morning but in fact left Friday morning so an envelope was waiting for me at the hotel. I went out anyway, in the pouring rain with an umbrella from the hotel, to the restaurant Rino where I had a reservation.
I was sitting next to what I thought was a couple but were just work friends. We all ended up talking half and half French and English. It turns out the woman, Laurence, had just been to Eilat with her daughter right after I was there. She is also Jewish. She had a car and I actually got a ride home. That was really great.
The next day, Saturday, I went to the Orangerie which has been renovated. I saw Monet's Waterlillies and some Matisses, Picassos and other Impressionists. I went to lunch and then continued onto the Pompidou Center. I forgot how big that place is. It must be one of the biggest museums in the world.
There is a show of Mondrian. It kind of left me cold. Actually my 35 euro ticket didn't cover Mondrian but the guard let me in anyway because I said I didn't think it was fair. It turns out the tickets are only good for permanent shows not special shows.  [Continued...]
