Friday In Utrecht

I had a wonderful day today. I took the train to Utrecht. Floor and Sylvie, who live in Utrecht have stayed at my place four or five times,. Floor met me at the station. We had a walking tour which included his high school and university. They have lived in Utrecht for most of their lives.
We walked through the center of the city and saw the old churches, the stores and restaurants and cafes. We went through a very small organic farmer's market where the fish people opened a wonderful oyster as a gift to me. Without lemon or mignonette sauce it was still perfect.
Eventually we reached a bus which took us to his house which is a cute little space in an old house on a corner. Sylvie was waiting at home for us and we then went after tea to their garden. They ride their bikes but we took their car and visited their garden. It is much bigger than mine and a lot more vegetables are grown there than on Houston. There are about 120 members.
They even have a little cabana-like structure with a kitchen next to their plots. They do not have running water sources like we do. They have collection containers and use water from a canal next door. The space was not as lush as ours on Houston with its many trees and winding paths, but it was filled with plant life. They too have garden wars and one of the wars is between the flower people and the vegetable people. I have included a picture of them at the garden. [Next post.]
We then went to their favorite pub where we met their friends with whom they came to NYC the last time they were there. Floor is a conductor and Sylvie and friends are in a chorus he conducts. Although I can't say I remember their friends well we became fast friends tonight.
