Last day Hoi an. Really had a very nice time here. Today's highlight was a cooking class. There was a cross section of English speaking people. South Africans, Australians and three American women. One of them -- believe or it or not -- lives on First Street right off Ave. A, almost across the street from me. One of the others lives on Second Ave. and Fifth Street. Small world.
Went to a wonderful market before going by boat to the cooking school location. We all watched a demonstration and then we went to stations to make our own rice pancakes (steamed) and made fresh spring rolls with shrimp, slightly pickled carrots, sprouts and cucumbers with greens and herbs. We then made fried pancakes with the same batter with sprouts, shrimp, pork and a mixture of herbs.
Also we made an eggplant dish with lemongrass and herbs.
I finally found out why all the women wear masks. They cover their faces to stay white.
Going to Ho Chin Minh City tomorrow.
